5 Best Ways to Fly With Wine

I love to buy wine on vacation. Sometimes enough to take home...

There is something wonderful that happens when you find a new wine store, enjoy a great tasting room or vineyard. A different selection, new choices of your favorites, a new region opens up, an experience captured in taste. Yes please! I want to bring this home with me.

On the other hand, when I know I'm going somewhere that my favorite wine probably won't be available or is going to be overpriced, I can take my favorites with me.

Airport baggage handlers aren't known to be the most delicate people (hey, if I worked there, I would absolutely toss every bag around), so it's your job to protect your vacation treasures. Say goodbye to wrapping your bottles in socks and dirty shirts. No more searching for bubble wrap. Please put the plastic bags and duct tape away.

After much research, and by that I mean going on vacation as much as I can, here are the top 5 ways to fly with wine:

#5 - Wine Skin

The original wine transport bag with a double adhesive seal. Leak resistant, these Wine Skins have a bubble inner layer for protection. Unfortunately, they are just single use and we found that your wine bottles still need to be placed in a padded place in your suitcase. The best part of Wine Skins is that they are simple, effective and cost-conscious way to transport wines.

#4 - Baleine 1 - 4 Bottle Wine Carrier

Stylish and insulated, grab up to 4 bottles of wine on the go! The Baleine Wine Carrier is great for picnics, BYOB, short travel, or just keeping your bottles cool on those warm days. It comes in 1, 2, and 4 bottle carriers. 9 different patterns to choose from guarantees one in your style! Great for keeping bottles cool on the run, but a little bulky for stuffing in a suitcase to send on a plane. But overpackers rejoice! When you get there, you have a great day travel cooler.

#3 - Wine Wings

Designed by a pilot, these reusable Wine Wings are not going to leak with their triple seal (double ziplock and velcro) and the inner bubble wrap keeps your bottles safe. They pack flat when not in use and fit multiple size bottles. Giving your wine the wings to fly!

#2 - The Ski Boot Technique

 Ski Boot Wine pi

My personal favorite for creativity and function! I learned this gem of a travel tip from my girlfriend, Sarah Simson, the 2022 US Olympic Freestyle Ski Judge, over dinner in Lake Placid. She emphasized wrapping the bottle in saran wrap and making sure your ski boots are dry before you pack your wine. Ski boots are perfect with their hard shell and adjustable buckles. It has worked amazing every time for me, but I get weird looks when I bring ski boots to the beach...

 And hands down, number #1:

The Ultimate Suitcase for Wine Lovers!

It's a thing of beauty! The only suitcase designed to protect your wine!  The VinGardeValise®  by Fly With Wine, comes in three different sizes so you can snugly and safely transport 2-12 bottles of wine.  Don't worry about your bag getting tossed around with 100% proprietary compound material shell with closed-cell foam. Even better, you can transport your favorite beers and spirits too. This is even the Go To suitcase if you don't travel with wine! Just remove the inserts and it is still your favorite piece of luggage (the super maneuverable wheels were what won me over).

How you travel with your wine can make or (literally) break your vacation, so choose wisely for your travels and you will sit back at your destination and drink it all in. Cheers!
