Quick and Easy! Last Minute Memorial Day Appetizer and Wine Pairing
It's already been a fun and busy Memorial Day Weekend! And, you forgot abut that appetizer you are supposed to bring to the party! Here is your fast but super tasty recipe that will wow with presentation.
Wine to bring: Sauvignon Blanc or Buttery Chardonnay
App to bring: Baked Brie with a Pesto Parmigiana Puff Pastry
Ingredients:
Brie cheese wheel, 2 puff pastry crusts, egg (for egg wash), pesto
Directions:
Preheat oven to puff pastry temp.
Take 2 sheets of circular puff pastry on a baking sheet with wax paper,
Place first sheet of pastry down.
Place Brie in the center of the Bottom sheet.
Use 6 tablespoons of pesto on surrounding pastry.
Place second sheet of pastry on top and seal.
Slice sides 8 times creating triangles.
Twist triangles and coat the entire pastry in a light egg wash
Bake for time on pastry packaging.
Remove top pastry on the Brie, garnish with apples, and enjoy! The twists are easy to break off and dip for this fun, shareable appetizer.
Wan to get fancy? Make your own Pesto!
Basil – use fresh basil leaves. The common basil leaves for pesto are large leaf basil, sweet basil, or Genovese basil
Parmesan cheese – shredded
Extra virgin olive oil – use the best quality oil you can source
Pine nuts – these are typical for pesto, but you can also substitute with walnuts for a different spin on pesto
Garlic cloves – 2 large cloves
Lemon juice – use freshly squeezed juice from 1 large or 2 smaller lemons. Do not use lemon juice concentrate.
Salt & pepper to taste.
